Glasses size/width/temple length

What is this, a pair of glasses for ants?

Overly old references aside, I just got my lock-in pair. I was impressed with the container, the build quality, and the general appearance, but my literal first response, out loud, was "Oh no, I wish I could still get a refund."

These are tiny. Incredibly tiny. They remind me of when I borrowed my 5'2 girlfriend's glasses for a week in college when mine unexpectedly broke.

The narrow size upfront I can deal with. It's unpleasant, but I can deal with it. The short temples are massively annoying. I can't deal with these if the final product won't have longer temples. Do these really fit on people's heads?

The photos show how far back the temple goes, and the width on my face. The final photo shows the Shima sitting completely inside the footprint of my normal-sized glasses.

Did your prescription give an arm length?

Hopefully they can make the arm length to spec (within the minimum required for the hardware within).

Frame 6. My scrip didn't include an arm length, but I've never heard of prescriptions including that before.

I have to assume it's possible to make the glasses longer, if not wider.

Gotta be, yeah. I've never seen one asking for arm length either, just pupilary distance. I'll make sure the choices down the line have the full dimensions of each frame available when picking a choice.

That is excellent to hear. I may be stuck with these (my old glasses are falling apart), but it's not forever and hopefully some other folks will benefit from dimensions.

This does raise some potential questions. With a standard pair of glasses the store can re-bend the crook of the arms to fit the depth of your ears, or if you order online you can use a hair dryer to heat acrylic arms and re-bend them.

I would be scared to heat up the arms of a pair of Shima lest I damage the components within. Will LaForge allow us to submit the length-to-crook of our current glasses and provide arms to match or will we be stuck ordering from the subset of frames with arms in that approximate range and then have to deal with them either being loose and falling down our noses or being tight and not sitting level? I imagine that the phantom display may not work as well when not level...

"I imagine that the phantom display may not work as well when not level."

I have raised this issue before, albeit in a different context; Glasses sit differently on different people for a number of reasons, one being nose width. I have a rather large nasal bone, meaning that glasses usually rest pretty high on my nose unless the nose pads are very flexible. With regular glasses this is a minor inconvenience, but with tiny displays embedded in the glasses, my guess is the fit has to be pretty accurate…!

You must remember that these lock-in glasses are only to test the Phantom Lenses; they are not the Shima glasses, and the Shimas will probably not resemble them at all.

Having said that, I too need longer-than-standard arms, which is why I usually choose glasses with straight arms. Hopefully, the Shimas will take this into account!

While they may be for testing the lenses, I still think it's fair to criticize this. Imagine if they didn't give frame dimensions when the full product launched.

Also, referring to your point about the phantom display not being level (vertical misalignment), these glasses bow outwards when I wear them, which will change the angle of incidence and cause potential horizontal misalignment.

Hi, I just wondered if we will have any updates soon? Thank you! Sincerely, tom

It's awful. I have to re-login constantly. The notifications bell drop-down doesn't work anymore. There's no good way to view the newest posts. The formatting is annoying, injecting styling for which I never asked and do no want. I could go on.

Hey Laforge/Corey, any way I could stop by and check the place out? 👀 Came up from Texas for a weekend trip and remembered you were up here.
