Can we please get an update?

Title says it all. A response from anyone. The 30 didn't get anything and people are noticing the pattern. It's been 2+ years (at least for me).

Also seeing as under "Order Status" the update says December 2017 and there hasn't been an update to that screen and it is almost February. At least let us know what delays occurred on the first 30. Or if the first 30 were shipped and now the other 70 have been contacted and more are being assembled and orders fulfilled. Maybe some pictures of the assembly process and just communication with us backers. Thanks!

Hey Cal,

We have been very busy and will send out an update soon. Here are the highlights:

  • The first 30 have not gone out yet. We encountered a delay of about a week due to our backlights being delayed by the crazy east coast winter storm. Another delay of about a week was due to CES and the subsequent increased investor interest after the panel and demo we did at the Venetian ant Kopin's (our display supplier) reception.

  • We have assembled and tested 15 of the circuits for alpha rev0.

  • We will now be increasing the number of rev0's to 40 (some of these will go development partners and investors)

  • We anticpate that the first units will go out in about 10 business days (they will be assembled next week) it is my goal to show video of these working next week.

  • Some pre-order holders will moved up. Only half of the people we sent emails to about confirming there shipment address for rev0 responded and we are not going to be waiting much longer for them to respond.

  • A new developer tool will be released early next week (check facebook and the blog around that time). There is extensive documentation.

  • We will also do an additional blog post explaining how we are doing rev0-3 in close succession since there was some confusion about our development strategy.

  • Pre-order holders will be recieving a survey letting them select their frame choices in exchange for locking in their pre-orders within the next 48 hours. We have had the frames secured for about 6 weeks, but wanted to focus on training people who have entered new roles and getting rev0 out. Please note, that "locking in"your pre-order means your are firmly committed to supporting this project and that you are waiving your right to a refund.

  • An announcement that 'alpha pre-orders will close in about a month' will go out next week.

I do know that this another deadline that we have missed, but just know that there are a lot of details we are trying to get right and we are working with about 50 different tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 suppliers. We will do better, and "better" takes some time. Our team is fully committed to releasing this.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Do you know how far down the list some folks will be moved up? I'm 117. I doubt its that far down.

I also want to chime in and say thank you for the quick update. I understand the crazyness of owning and operating a new company and it leaves very little time for yourself, let alone updating people to the unexpected delays but it does feel good on this side to have "some" contact with someone about the progress. Thanks

@Cal: You are engaged, responsive, and keep us accountable to our vision (sounds like someone we should have involved at the early stages). Email juan@laforgeoptical.com and she will get you moved up.

@Kyle: Totally understand. Note we try to send one update out every calendar month (our last update was December 2017). Also check facebook, if you are not already. We also have a separate mailing list for pre-order holders. After rev0 goes out you all will be getting a separte email update with more in-depth information.

@all: My previous post was updated as the fifth bullet stated "rev1" it now states "rev0"

@Corey. Emailed. Thank you very much. I really hope we are in the home stretch and look forward to testing.

Well 10 working days have passed, did any of the rev0 people received anything yet?

"it is my goal to show video of these working next week. " Well, this certainly did not happen. So uhm... will anything said actually be done?

I have not yet.

@John. The person I assigned to the video is out with after suffering a concussion in a sports related accident. He will be out for one more week. We do not have anyone else with bandwidth to accomodate this request. Once he's back we will put him on it.

We have not shipped alphas yet. A miscommunication a supplier has led to us not part of the packaging and a shortage of alpha lenses. The first 30 pre-order customers will be contacted via phone or skype by a LAFORGE team member with more information on delays.

We are adding more team members and implementing new tools to end the series of delays that have been going on for the last 3 weeks.

Can we get an update on that concussion guy? It's been a week since he was supposed to be back.

I too would like to know how your video guy is doing and whether or not we can expect this new video anytime soon. Thanks.

I'm more interested to know if the Rev 3 can still be delivered by May as scheduled. Since we are heading towards march and Rev 0 has yet to be delivered, I believe Rev 3 will not likely meet its scheduled date and if that is the case when will the Rev 3 be receiving their glasses? Also, will Rev 0 eventually be delivered cause it was supposedly be out "within 10 business days @ Jan 27"but that did not happen. What I am curious is, how does "A miscommunication a supplier has led to us not part of the packaging and a shortage of alpha lenses." even happen since the promised production date was supposed to start latest by October 2017 (remember the no earlier than 30 days and no later than 90 days promise?). Did Laforge only started production at the end of January?

Can we get an update either way?

I am just extremely curious about the link above. On feb 2015, Laforge said "a few weeks from finishing our next batch of lenses". What happened to these batch of glasses? All thrown away?

On Feb 2017, Laforge mentioned " We started shipments and then stopped again. ". So who did Laforge shipped to before shipment stopped since the first 30 backers did not receive anything to date.

IIRC: They were able to make the lenses even smaller, so they delayed.

Edit: I have forum notifications turn on. Every day that I get an email for this.. I get excited then disappointed that its not a response from Corey.

@Cal - Likewise, bit of a roller coaster eh?

I'm sure with the pre-orders closing and February coming to an end we will get an update soon.

I am interested to know how Laforge came out with their estimated delivery dates though. Even though they have never fulfill any of the given scheduled dates, was it even realistic when they come out with the figure? Corey did say they are going to explain "how we are doing rev0-3 in close succession since there was some confusion about our development strategy. " but so far, no updates on this.

Close succession of each rev is one thing, how laforge was planning to produce 1,000 units of custom made glasses in just a few months time is another. Now I am not saying Laforge isn't capable of doing so despite them not showing evidence that they could and not delivering every scheduled delivery date for the past years plus a massive 4 months delay on delivering a mere 30 units doesn't help either but based on my research on similar and some argued "less complicated" products like vue and zungle required more than half a year to develop over a thousand units through automation manufacturing and these glasses aren't even custom made (standard 1 size fit all glasses). I do hope Laforge could share more details on what's going on and how they do things.

Where are you concussion guy?

John Rothstein
Mar 11, 2018Edited: Mar 11, 2018

Any news on the concussion guy yet? I know Laforge has just gotten one of its patent granted and it does show Laforge is making some progress on its project, however, this does not prove or mean much to the backers since you do not need a working prototype to get a patent granted and the backers doesn't really get anything out of it. Plastc project for example got their patent for their digital cc invention but the project did not end well either and all the backers lost their money.

Not trying to be negative here but since the schedule has been delayed and we have yet to receive any updates on the development for months, we do appreciate if you guys could shed some light on the progress being done on delivering the glasses.

It's awful. I have to re-login constantly. The notifications bell drop-down doesn't work anymore. There's no good way to view the newest posts. The formatting is annoying, injecting styling for which I never asked and do no want. I could go on.

Hey Laforge/Corey, any way I could stop by and check the place out? 👀 Came up from Texas for a weekend trip and remembered you were up here.

To anyone receiving prototypes or alphas interested in application-development, testing and deployment feel free to reach-out.
